Data sources and assumptions
- Weather steps come from the Fort Pierce ASOS (FPR), about 21.0 km northwest of the plant on the mainland, not from the plant itself.
- Each step summarizes the 15 minutes ending at its time, from ASOS 1-minute data: precipMmPerHour = mean 1-min precip (in) x 25.4 x 60; gustKmh = max 1-min gust (kt) x 1.852; tempC = last 1-min temperature (F) converted.
- thunderPct is not a forecast probability. It is 100 when an FPR METAR or 5-min HFMETAR in the step's 15 minutes reports TS or VCTS, or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning with coversSite=true is active; otherwise null (unknown, not zero).
- coversSite is true when the storm-based polygon contains the plant point, or when the product is county-wide for St. Lucie County (FLC111) or zone-wide for the plant's forecast zone (FLZ159). Alerts whose polygon misses the plant stay in the list with coversSite=false; area gives the distance.
- Pop-up storm: no Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watch for St. Lucie County was active in the 2 hours before the first warning covering the plant (12:47). Severe Thunderstorm Watch MLB SV.A #258 was issued at 12:53, after that warning.
- NCEI Storm Events times are EST (UTC-5) and were converted to EDT (UTC-4).
- Missing 1-minute rows are skipped; a field is null only when its whole 15-minute block is missing.
- nwsGrid comes from api.weather.gov/points for the site coordinates.
- Return time = straight-line distance to the WP15 dock at 1 m/s, plus 1 min per floor change. Kit x/y units are assumed to be meters. Stairs are assumed walkable; Spot's guide says Autowalk is not meant for stairs, so a real route may need an elevator or a same-floor dock.
